My Form 5 Public Speaking Script
Today's post is about my experience of participating in public speaking competition back in school. Couldn't imagine how fast the time flies. While the world is awaiting to celebrate 2020, I would like to time travel to my Form 5 school days.
I chose my public speaking script to share with you all since it was one of my vivid memories. Hope you will enjoy it. Please forgive my poor English. Haha :)
Here you go.

A pleasant good morning to the distinguished judges, dedicated teachers and fellow friends.
In this beautiful event today, I am here to talk about selfie.
My father once asked me this question: Whose face do you look when you get to see the group photo of your class in the school magazine? My siblings and I knew as the capital letter I (what I meant with the capital letter I is myself). Now there is another thing that has made the capital letter I bold and underlined — selfie.
So, what is selfie? Do not ever think that I have no idea about selfie. Let me ask you a question. Do you take selfies? |respond| Good to know because I do take selfies on my own and I admit that. I just wonder when did this trend begin and how did it affect our lives? I have some of my opinions here that need all of you to put on your thinking hats.
My dear audience,
Let us start from the negatives. Selfies can be obsessive and even give torture to ourselves. Too much of a good thing is definitely not a good thing at all. We can get addicted to it. For example, recently on April 15th 2016 two youths were run over by a train while taking selfies on the railway tracks at Purushottampur railway in India.
Another thing that we should consider about, especially ladies is self-revealing through selfies. Ladies should always remember to look at themselves before taking a selfie because they can spread like a wildfire in the internet. Let me tell you a story of Amanda Michelle Todd.
She went in chat rooms with friends a few years ago to meet new people. They complimented her and challenged her to show her topless photo. So she did it when she was 14 years old.
About a year later, somebody messaged her telling her that if she didn’t give him a “show”, he would send her topless photo to everyone. A few weeks went by during Christmas break, police came by her house and told her that the photo had gone viral. She was depressed and she lost every friend. She moved to a different school to start a new beginning. Not too long after, the photo went viral again. She got into drugs, alcohol and she started to harm herself. She became so depressed, she couldn’t overcome her depression.
She moved to a new place but she was abused physically and mentally by bullies who knew her. After that, she attempted suicide but she was saved. After she came home, she received threatening posts from cyberbullies. She cried every night and attempted suicide multiple times and finally she hung herself on October 10th 2012 at the age of 16.
Ladies and gentlemen, the story of Amanda Todd shows the negative consequences of taking selfies mindlessly which will lead you to the endless trouble most importantly to teenagers.
Dear friends,
However, there is a positive side of selfie. Selfies do boost our confidence level. Whenever we look at our best looks through selfies, we would feel that we are on top of the world and who knows some of us might feel that we are the best models in the world. This confident booster can come in handy especially when we are nervous for a big event.
Besides that, selfie do capture a lot of memorable memories in life. Those photos will definitely put a smile on our faces when we flip through our albums in our mobiles. It can be either sweet of funny moments. This is one of the best ways to treasure our amazing moments.
To conclude, I would like to say that selfie can be both good and bad. It depends on how far we let it to influence our lives. It can make our lives as colourful as a rainbow or destroy like a tornado. Note to self, whatever I posted online, stays online permanently. There is no use to cry over spilled milk. With that, I thank you.
